Oliver's 2nd Blog: Animals and Ethics

Good Morning Hair Mekanixer's!  How are we all this frosty morning?

Gitte and Oliver the owners of Hair Mekanix have always supported an ethical business and tried to support charities dear to their hearts. Local charities, Breast Cancer Research and very much, animal charities particularly Animals Asia Foundation for which Oliver has taken part in two gruelling Asian treks.

We take care with companies that we deal with too and would like to share with you Paul Mitchell’s impressive and wonderful stance against vivisection and animal testing.

Below is an excerpt from press release last year:

Paul Mitchell® is always looking out for our furry friends. In 1987, we became the first professional beauty company to announce that we don’t conduct or endorse animal testing.

John Paul Mitchell Systems® is showing consumers once again why it's a leader in cruelty-free compassion. Last year, the company pulled out of China after being informed that it would have to pay for animal tests in order to continue selling its products in China. Rather than be part of a market where animal tests are required, JPMS CEO and co-founder John Paul DeJoria made the decision to stop selling its products in China in order to remain committed to the company’s cruelty-free policy. Paul Mitchell, whose products have never been tested on animals anywhere in the world, has received PETA's Courage in Commerce Award for fully living up to its reputation as a long time cruelty-free company.

"Since Paul Mitchell was founded in 1980, we have been cruelty-free. We do not conduct or condone animal testing on our products, and we will not attempt to market our products in China until alternatives to animal testing methods have been accepted by the government. We are honoured and encouraged to be working with China to bring about positive change. Paul Mitchell always has been and always will be cruelty-free!" said DeJoria.

Paul Mitchell are also proud to be the only international professional hair care brand to receive ‘Leaping Bunny’ status from the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection). The leaping bunny logo is widely recognised and trusted amongst consumers.  Cruelty Free International chief executive Michelle Thew said: 'The Humane Standards, symbolised by the Leaping Bunny logo, is the most rigorous international cruelty-free certification in the world. 'Each company is regularly audited to ensure that no animal testing takes place throughout each company’s entire supply chain. 'Where companies no longer comply with the Humane Standards, the right to use the Leaping Bunny logo is retracted.’

We say “3 cheers for Paul Mitchell”.

From time to time you may see money raising tins or an Animals Asia Moon Bear collection cage, we thank you in advance for any donations you make to help us raise money and awareness for the charities we support.
